This is my most ambitious project to date and possibly my favorite. 1500 layer feather damascus with an integral guard. really pleased with the result. This is the final piece I submitted in my set for consideration for full membership to the Australian Knifemaker's guild. I passed!

The initial billet of steel was 3.3kg, 25 layers of 15n20 and 1084. The 15n20 layers were a fair bit thinner than the 1084 resulting in a darker overall blade. After being forge welded and made into c's and drawn out (the "wrong" way, straightening the c's out again) , re stacked x6 for 150 layers. then that was forge welded and drawn out and cut into 10 with the final stack being 1500 layers. That was welded and feathered, then re welded and I drew it out and forged as best I could the outline of an integral bowie. The final weight of the knife is 311g, the blade is 210mm long with a 7mm spine and the knife has a 340mm total length. The pattern possibly turned out more reminiscent of lightning than feather - perhaps due to my inexperience... call it a happy little accident. The spacer is nickel silver, the handle is ringed gidgee and the pin is 416 stainless. The sheath features a sweet piece of croc belly and very secure (hand made) sam browne stud + loop retaining strap combo.
